Our Director - Jeffrey A. White

Artistic Director Jeff White was born and raised in St. Louis.  He traces his desire to pursue church music back to the sixth grade when he developed an interest in the pipe organ at Salem Lutheran Church in Affton, MO.  In those early years, he began learning to play hymns and liturgy, and by the time he was in high school, he became known in the St. Louis area for subbing when he wasn't helping out at Salem.  It was during this time that he discovered a love for Handbells after being coerced to join Salem's bell choir.

In 1985, during his freshman year at Concordia University Chicago, Jeff was a founding member of the University’s bell choir and served as one of the student conductors for the group.  Jeff returned to St. Louis at the end of that school year and offered to take over the direction of Salem’s bell choir, for which the music director was enthusiastic to have him do!  He has been directing handbell and vocal choirs in each parish he's served since then.

Jeff is the Associate Music Director and Organist at Historic Trinity Lutheran Church located in the Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis City.  He earned a Master of Church Music degree from Concordia University Wisconsin, having studied Organ with Dr. John Behnke (Concordia) and Dr. Nancy Ympa (McKendree University) and is a certified Colleague in the American Guild of Organists.  He currently has one handbell piece in publication, and hopes to have more in the future.

Jeff rang with the Gateway Ringers for twenty years and served on the Executive Board at various times.  He retired from ringing in Gateway in the Spring of 2019, but decided to accept an invitation to join the ReBellion Handbell Ensemble which needed to fill an open spot in their group.  Jeff is a member and has served on the Executive Committee of the American Guild of Organists, St. Louis Chapter, and was on the board and is a member of the Handbell Musicians of America.  He also participated in the Handbell Association of Greater St. Louis.
